Engineering Student Society & EquaLearn Collaboration!

Hello Everyone, and Welcome to The Origins Club Blog!

Our organization has been working hard to connect our mentors and tutors with students from a variety of backgrounds. Today, we would like to officially announce our partnership with both the University of Calgary Engineering Student Society and the EquaLearn foundation.

Details of The Collaborations:

Our collaboration with the ESS is to help support students that plan on studying engineering at university. The program allows high school students to see what a career in this field may look like through seminars, workshops and weekly meetings with current engineering students. Each mentee is paired with an engineering student from UCalgary and can get first-hand knowledge and have their questions answered by a student in the program. This opportunity is the first of its kind and is currently offered exclusively through the collaboration between the ESS and The Origins Club.

The EquaLearn foundation offers a very unique tutoring program, known as EquaTutor, that we are now excited to be connected with. This program is a one-on-one tutoring program that occurs weekly and is completely free of charge. Every tutoring session is run online. Our collaboration with EquaLearn stemmed from their presence in tutoring sessions for elementary school-aged children, including refugees, immigrants, and low-Income families. Their advocation for youth activism and involvement is a pivotal reason for collaboration, as it creates a positive environment for youth all across Calgary.

To summarize:

What does this mean for mentees?

Mentees will now not be limited to having mentors that aren't able to provide them with the most accurate knowledge, or having to wait an extended time before an appropriate mentee-mentor match is formed.

What does this mean for mentors?

Well, by collaborating with both these organizations, we can provide mentors with a mentee that is better suited for their skills, expertise, and other traits. Also, in particular, engineering students can expect to be paired with high schools who have hopes and aspirations of also pursuing engineering.

What does this mean for tutors?

Tutors will now be able to connect with students of varying ages and provide them with tutoring. So, tutors can look forward to being able to work with and teach students that they are most comfortable working with.
